There are now 179 new emoji candidates ready for the new year.

Unicode Consortium has proposed the additions, which include couples holding hands with a total of 55 skin tone and gender combinations.

Others include an emoji for a deaf person, and one with a mechanical limb.

The new emojis are being called a big win for diversity.
