NORTH PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A 16-year-old boy was killed and a 12-year-old boy was injured after a gunman opened fire on a group sitting on a porch in North Philadelphia, police said.

It happened shortly after midnight Sunday on the 2700 block of North 19th Street. Police said someone opened fire on a group of teens sitting on a porch.

Family members said 16-year-old Marquese Houston was just hanging out with friends on his neighborhood block when he was shot in the chest and neck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Why would someone want to do this to him, I can't fathom why this happened to him," said Kamera Wearing, victim's aunt. " It has to be mistaken identity."

The 12-year-old boy was shot in the thigh and taken to St. Christopher's Hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

Police said other teens in the group managed to escape the gunfire without injury.

Authorities said it is not immediately clear if the victims knew the gunman.

The suspect has been described as in his 20s, thin build with wavy hair.

No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.

Authorities are also investigating another shooting in North Philadelphia that took place near Temple University's campus.
