Teens find decomposing body on a mountain bike trail
Police said they are investigating the gruesome discovery as reported during Action News at 11 on May 22, 2019.

READING, Pa. (WPVI) -- Officials from Reading have identified the man whose body was found by a group of teenagers visiting from Delaware County.

We're told the man found off a trail on Mt. Penn on Tuesday is 34-year-old Daniel Figueroa of Reading.

"We're walking up and my friend goes look to your left!" said Alex Teo, who was with friends hiking along the "A-Line" trail between Angora Road and Skyline Drive.

"(I) thought it was a mannequin or a prank at first, and we look and there's a bunch of flies towards the body. We're like that's a dead body!" Teo added.

Figueroa's autopsy was performed Wednesday, but authorities have yet to announce the official cause of death.

Berks County District Attorney John Adams says he has little doubt this is a homicide case.

"It was apparent from a view of the body that the individual had suffered a gunshot wound," Adams says.

Authorities believe Figeora had been dead for two to three days, but it's not clear if he died in the park or was dumped there.

Anyone with any further information about this case is asked to call Reading police.
