SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- It's often said that landing the job of your dreams means looking the part.
And knowing that's not always an option if funds are tight, a library in Southwest Philadelphia is helping residents prepare for that important job interview in style - one tie at a time.
"That's your piece of individuality and personality when you go on your interview and the more options you have - the better," said library assistant, Omelio Alexander.
He's talking about a power tie. And just like you would borrow a book, you can do the same with neckwear at this "Tie-brary" - a novel idea happening inside the the Paschalville Branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia.
"You check them out. You hold onto them as long as you need and bring it back - hopefully get your job," said Alexander.
The goal is to help job seekers show up to interviews in style and with confidence, even if their budget comes up short.
Most of the trendy ties were donated by MenzFit, a local organization dressing men for success.
Alexander says he knew he had to display them in a way that would attract attention and inspire job seekers.
So what was once home to a VHS is now the home to a tie that could land someone a job.
"I said, we have these old boxes from VHS that we don't use anymore and I said we might well make use of them," he said.
The library doesn't just help people suit up for the big interview, but they also offer one on one support to find the job openings and land the gigs.
"So any online assistance with applications resumes and cover letters, if you want to do a remote interview we have that here or take any online classes," said Niema Nelson, Digital resouce Specialist.
And they say they know their help is coming in handy because they often get the good news from some pretty grateful new hires!
"They come back and they have the biggest smile and come back with their kids and just want to hug and kiss me!" said Nelson with a smile.
And the help doesn't stop there.
Once you do get job, the library also has help to take on the working world, offering other assistance with things like SEPTA tokens to get to work.
