Investigators say 25-year-old Britney Carmichael of Norristown was driving westbound on the turnpike when she lost control of her passenger vehicle at 12:30 a.m. Thursday.
Police say the vehicle spun out of control, hit a guard rail and traveled directly into the path of a Mack truck.
The vehicles collided and ended up in the middle of the westbound lanes.
One passenger, 18-year-old Michael Graham of Norristown, was trapped in the passenger car.
Firefighters freed him, and medics rushed him to Einstein Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
Four other passengers were taken to Abington Memorial Hospital. There was no immediate word on their names or conditions.
Accident investigators are still working to determine what led to the crash.
