CENTER CITY -- Center City Philadelphia has never had an official veterans parade - until now.
Here at 6abc, we have been busy preparing for the first annual march - a true celebration of our service members that you can watch live on Sunday, November 8.
"Philadelphia has not had a veterans parade, really ever, so this is exciting for us," said Media Mayor Bob McMahon.
Mayor McMahon is always busy planning his town's Veterans Day Parade. This year marks the 56th annual march to honor our service members in downtown Media.
But in downtown Philadelphia, this Sunday marks the city's very first. And we were busy putting the finishing touches on the big event.
"Having it in Center City - in the city where the American government was formed. Philadelphia is where a veterans parade really belongs more than anywhere else," said McMahon.
This first annual Philadelphia veterans parade will salute members of every branch of military service - the brave men and women in uniform who have served our country in each and every war.
"So veterans will be there honoring every veteran," said McMahon.
And the visuals on tap promise to be the ultimate display of American pride and gratitude.
"We are going to have an opening that's probably going to be a little bit different. We are going to have the all veterans parachute team bring the 50 X 30 foot American flag from a plane - 4 minutes to the ground - with the national anthem playing as they are bringing the flag to the ground," explains McMahon.
The parade will be hosted by Action News anchor Alicia Vitarelli along with Major General Wesley Craig and Major General Walter Lord.
You can watch the first annual Veterans Parade on Sunday, November 8 at 12:30 p.m. on 6abc.
