CHERRY HILL, New Jersey (WPVI) -- Craig Taylor, a general contractor for more than 50 years, wanted to create an event to bring all walks of life together.
It started with a simple phrase: 'Kiss Hate Goodbye.'
Taylor relied on friends, family, and community connections to reach out to dozens of people to get involved.
He got responses from roughly 50 people who helped him form the 'Kiss Hate Goodbye' committee.
Over the past few months, they have held meetings to develop and plan an event where people of all backgrounds could dine, dance, and take a stand against hate together.
The first-of-its-kind 'Kiss Hate Goodbye' event is scheduled to take place on Thursday, November 20, from 5pm to 9pm at Lucien's Manor in Berlin, New Jersey.
At the event, guests can expect a buffet dinner followed by dancing to music from the 1970s, 80s, and 90s.
A guest speaker, Loay al-Sharif, is expected to speak about his personal experience with hate and advocating for peace.
The committee plans to donate net proceeds in four places, including the ALS Hope Foundation, Food Bank of South Jersey, and South Jersey Breast Cancer Coalition. They also created the 'Kiss Hate Goodbye School Awards,' in which local students were asked to write essays or create projects describing what the titular phrase means to them.
