Santa Cruz's Dream Inn is one couple's home away from home... literally

SANTA CRUZ Calif. -- For Doug Jarman and his wife, Santa Cruz is a special place to relax and recharge.

"When I get to Santa Cruz, I don't think about anything," Jarman said. "I ride my bike as slow as possible that I don't fall over. I just love it here."

When Doug and wife visit Santa Cruz, they always find a safe haven at the Dream Inn, the only beachfront resort offering oceanside rooms and dining.

"We've been coming to the Dream Inn one week a month, pretty consistently since 1999," Jarman said.

For more than a quarter of a century, Doug and his wife have enjoyed the inviting and calming retro-chic Dream Inn accommodations.

"My wife, she started it all. I travelled for a living back then, and my wife called me one day to say that she was in Santa Cruz and 'I'm staying at a hotel and I'm on a beach'," Jarman said. "And I said, 'Where's that?' Then we came back and then, I was hooked and I was like, 'We're doing this one week, a month, every, every month'."

Doug has cherished countless memories at the hotel that stared back when his two daughters were in elementary school and have continued on today.

"The girls got older, and then once the kids started having kids, we couldn't wait to introduce the grandkids to all of this," Jarman said.

With frequent trips with his seven grandchildren, The Dream Inn has become an important place for Jarman's family.

"My daughters feel like this is their parent's second home so they love coming here," Jarman said., "I love it."
