NJ woman gets home makeover after 14 months in hospital

FRANKLINVILLE, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- 25-year-old Alexus Dick was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy early in life. The genetic condition has taken her to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia multiple times.

It was December 2024, when she was rushed to the hospital after having difficulty breathing.
She had no idea it would take until February 2026 to come home.

During her 400-plus-day stay, Dick's childhood best friend, Trinity Jagdeo, was a fearless advocate who always kept her spirits high.

Jagdeo was inspired by Dick to form the nonprofit, From We Can't to We Can, in 2018. The organization provides people who have disabilities with equipment, inclusive activities, and even writes children's books.

When Dick was finally given the green light to return home, her house required critical repairs to accommodate the family's needs.

Jagdeo was able to mobilize the whole community to chip in, giving the home a much-needed makeover. They raised more than $5,000 and had several local businesses donate their time and services.

Jagdeo has also cultivated a strong following on social media that has supported the Dick family.
