Dozens of cars broken into, 2 stolen in Bucks Co.

WASHINGTON CROSSING (WPVI) -- Police in Bucks County are looking for the people who broke into more than two dozen cars and then stole two of them - all in just about an hour.

It was early Tuesday morning when Morgan McDermott, along with the rest of her family, woke up to realize her stepfather's car had been stolen.

Morgan tells us, "I never think that that we would be a target. Like, I didn't think this would ever happen, but it's scary but you just gotta be alert."

And the McDermott family was by no means alone.

Investigators say that between 1:30 and 2:30 Tuesday morning a group of thieves took items for more than 30 parked vehicles, and actually stole two of those vehicles from the Heritage Hills community in Washington Crossing.

Upper Makefield Police Chief Mark Schmidt explains, "The vast majority of these vehicles were unsecured, unlocked vehicles. A lot of personal possessions were left out in plain view for people. There was cash, CDs, laptop, purse."

You can count Janet Hutchinson's son among those who were victimized.

She tells us, "In my son's car he had cash he made from his job the night before. So they had broken in the car and stolen that."

And neighbors say the most disturbing part is that these thieves seemed to really know what they were doing and where to go.

Resident Deanna Casadonti tells us, "It definitely seems to ... that it's more sophisticated. It's something that's being planned out - these people have a strategy or something, because I don't think it's random. So, it's not the first time something like this has happened in the last six months."

In fact, the same development was hit in very similar fashion back in January. So, local investigators are urging residents not to leave their valuables, including their keys, inside their vehicles at night, and to lock them up before they go to sleep.
