PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Some areas will see accumulating snow overnight before a polar plunge sets in for the weekend.
TONIGHT: Rain and snow showers continue this evening. As temperatures fall to around freezing overnight, some slick spots will develop, especially northwest of the city.
The most widespread snow activity will occur tonight through dawn on Saturday.
As much as 1-3" of snow can accumulate in the Lehigh Valley and parts of the northwest suburbs.
Around the Delaware Valley, a coating to 1" of snow is possible.
SATURDAY: Snow showers exit before sunrise. The atmosphere remains very unstable so expect cloudy skies with limited sun, high 35. Winds will be gusty with gusts up to 35mph. Wind chills will stay in the low 20s all day.
SUNDAY: The day starts off with wind chills in the single digits. It doesn't get much better during the afternoon with wind chill values in the teens. It's not as windy as Saturday, but it's bitterly cold with mostly sunny skies, high 27.
MONDAY: A very cold morning with lows in the single digits and teens! It stays chilly all day with mostly sunny skies, high 32.
TUESDAY (CHRISTMAS EVE): Rather cloudy with a rain or snow shower around, high 37.
WEDNESDAY (CHRISTMAS): A quiet day with a mix of clouds and sun, high 41.
THURSDAY: Partly sunny and seasonable, high 44.
FRIDAY: A touch milder with intervals of clouds and sun, high 46.
