Water main break in West Philadelphia

WEST PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A water main break caused anger and frustration Friday for residents in West Philadelphia.

The 6-inch water main along the 200 block of North Simpson Street busted, sending water bubbling up to the street.

It flooded basements and frayed residents' nerves.

But neighbors tell us they really got upset when they learned they may be on the hook for repairs.

"Actually we're going to have to pay for this. It's horrible and I'm tired of it," said Tawanda McBride. "But we can't do nothing about it."

"Block by block the city is not taking care of the problem," said Everett Lee. "They're putting the problem on taxpayers."

"My basement is flooded, porch muddy, things are ruined in my home and I don't understand," said Sherrie Davis.

The water department shut off all service to 120 properties while they work to fix the broken main.
