If you are looking ahead to fall fashion, or looking for a refresh, Action News enlisted the help of a celebrity stylist to navigate our way to finding a signature style that works without spending a fortune.
"It's not about the bulk anymore. It's about buying the things that are right," says InStyle Magazine founder and celebrity stylist Hal Rubenstein.
Rubenstein says right now, it's all about simplicity and smart spending on things that never go out of style - think one diamond bangle instead of 5 pieces of what he calls "junk jewelry."
"It's a kick, it's a giggle. You're a grown up," he said.
And grown ups, he says wear the good stuff.
"When put your jewelry in a safety deposit box you may as well throw it out the window, because it's dead," he adds. "Life is short - just wear you diamonds! Wear them!"
Rubenstein is the style director for Gabriel & Co., which sells fine jewelry he calls elegant and every day.
"T-shirt and jeans, or you are going to that wedding and you are still a knockout and you are still wearing it," he says.
And on Saturday, July 25, he's helping style you at the 'Before the Beach' Brunch at Bernie Robbins Jewelers in Somers Point, New Jersey - a shopping party with food, cocktails, discounts and giveaways.
"You want to have style? Practice. Go to the store, don't be in a rush," said Rubenstein.
He says in order to stock your closet with winners, live with the items for 45 minutes in the store before heading to the register and don't let the lure of end of season sales ensnare you.
"If you wouldn't crave it at full price - don't buy it because you will never be in love with it," he says.
Rubenstein says sometimes what we really love is the price tag.
"What's the first thing you do when you get home? You cut the sales tag off," he says. "The only thing that was most attractive to you and you throw it away. It'll go in the mistake pile."
Rubenstein is also offering Action News viewers a special discount. Just mention 6abc at the Bernie Robbins event this Saturday and he will give you 10% off.
