Belmar's St. Patrick's Parade needs help

BELMAR, N.J. (AP) - February 1, 2008 Organizers are thinking of taking their bagpipes and 100,000 spectators elsewhere unless they get more green from businesses.

It will cost nearly $49,000 to pay for bands to parade in the Jersey shore towns on March 2.

This year's grand marshal, Ed Neafsey, tells the Asbury Park Press the businesses don't donate one penny.

Parade co-chairman Bill O'Connell says the Chamber of Commerce contributes only $100. The rest comes from fundraisers.

Chamber president Rachel Rogers says her group has been financially strapped in recent years.

Belmar Mayor Ken Pringle says he wants to meet with parade organizers.
