Freezing rain causes traffic trouble in suburbs

Freezing rain is causing havoc on the highways north and west of Philadelphia. Scores of accidents are reported in Chester County, parts of Delaware County, upper Montgomery County and northern Bucks County Friday morning.

The Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, Interstate 476, is also reporting icing in the Lansdale area.

Temperatures in Philadelphia and areas to the south are still above freezing, forecasters say, and they are expected to remain that way, so roads are just wet.

Later today, the National Weather Service expects temperatures to rise toward the 50s with even a thunderstorm possible in the Philly area. By the weekend, the thermometer could reach the upper 50s.
