The capsule had been placed in the cornerstone of Memorial Hall in 1956. The building was recently demolished to make room for new buildings. When the capsule was opened Thursday, university president Dr. Allen Sessoms found a list of every student who attended the school since the late 1800s. Those records had been missing for half a century. Onlookers cheered as other items, such as an old student newspaper and sports scores were pulled from of the capsule.

Former DSU professor Ulysses Washington, who was being honored at the event Thursday, said it was great to look back at the school's history. He began teaching at Delaware State in 1949. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
