Suspect named in South Street rape

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA - February 25, 2008 Police have identified 34-year-old David Rosario of the 9700 block of 96th Avenue in Queens, N.Y. as their primary suspect in Sunday's rape of a woman in a South Street apartment.

It happened in the 200 block of South Street in South Philadelphia. That's where investigators say two young women ended up after leaving North Bar.

The group, including the alleged rapist and the 2 owners of the bar, went back to the victim's upstairs apartment. Police say the victim's roommate went to sleep shortly after arriving back at the apartment, and after a few hours everyone left... except the alleged rapist.

The victim woke her roommate to say the suspect wouldn't leave. That's when the attacker barged into the room with a knife threatening to rape both women.

He sexually assaulted one woman at knife point, then left the room. The victim and her roommate locked the door. Seconds later the attacker kicked the door down. The rape victim then dove out the 3rd story window.

The victim is currently in critical condition with a broken back.

Rosario allegedly fled, and now police are on the hunt.

Rosario is Hispanic, standing 5'11" tall and weighing 175 lbs. He was last seen wearing a black oversized jacket with orange lining and blue jeans. He may be operating a red 1997 Ford Explorer with NY tags EEA 8338. He may also be driving a 1999 black Ford Taurus, NY tags EEM 6652.
