Alaska holds the record for the greatest amount of snow in one winter season.

Thompson Pass, AK picked up an astounding 974.1" of snow in 1953! No other state in the US comes even close to that number, but the closest competitors are Oregon, which measured 822" in the winter of 1949 at Crater Lake National Park, and Alta, Utah, which picked up 810" of snow in the winter of 1984.
