Temple, Nova, St. Joe's Tournament bound

March 16, 2008 Selection Sunday has local schools headed to NCAA Tournament. The Temple Owls, who received an automatic bid on Saturday thanks to their win over Saint Joseph's in the Atlantic 10 Championship, return to the "Big Dance" for the first time since 2001. The 12th seeded Owls will face the 5th seeded Michigan State Spartans Thursday in Denver Colorado.

Meanwhile, the Saint Joseph's Hawks were sweating their fate, but the tournament committee has invited the Hawks back to the ball. They will face Oklahoma in Birmingham Alabama in the first round of the East Region on Friday.

Despite a rocky road this season the Villanova Wildcats are also going to the tournament. The Wildcats, one of eight Big East squads in the tournament, secured a number 12 seed and will take on the 5th seeded Clemson Tigers in the Midwest Region opening round Friday in Tampa, Florida.

These three local teams will compete with 62 others for the national championship on April 7th in San Antonio. The number one seeds also hoping to make it to the Alamo Dome are Memphis, North Carolina, Kansas, and UCLA.

March Madness officially tips off on Tuesday with the "play in" game between Coppin State and Mt. St. Mary's. Last year's champion Florida didn't even make the field of 65.
