Elkton arsonists strikes again

An Elkton, Maryland couple were forced to flee there home shortly after 4:00 a.m. Thursday, after an arson fire, set in their shed, spread to their home. Maryland fire marshals say the couple was awakened by a neighbor who alerted them to the fire at their home in the 100 block of Midland Drive. Firefighters quickly noticed a second fire nearby in the 100 block of South Tartan Drive.

Both fires had been set in sheds on the properties, and the one on Midland quickly spread to the home. Heavy damage there is estimated at $125,000. There was exterior damage to the home next door. Damage to the shed on Tartan Drive is estimated at $8,000.

Those were the second and third fires officials say are the work of an arsonist. The first, in April, was also set in a shed on South Tartan Drive.

Anyone with information about the fires is asked to call the Maryland Arson Hotline, at 1-800-492-7529.
