More details of deadly Pa. Turnpike crash

UPPER MORELAND TWP., Pa. - August 22, 2008 State police tell Action news that a Ford Ranger pickup truck was heading east on the Pa. Turnpike when the tread on the rear driver's side came off.

The woman who was driving the truck lost control, and the truck hit an embankment, flipped over twice, then landed back on the eastbound lanes of the highway.

The woman, whose name hasn't been released, was killed when she was partially thrown out of the passenger compartment.

The accident blocked the eastbound lanes of the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Upper Moreland Township at about 5 a.m.

Two lanes of the highway were reopened just before 7 a.m. after workers had the vehicle towed from the scene and had cleared enough debris.
