NJ gets $2.1 million from Pfizer

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - October 22, 2008

New Jersey's share is part of a $58 million settlement filed Wednesday in Superior Court in Mercer County.

The states alleged the pharmaceutical giant broke consumer protection laws by misrepresenting facts about potential side effects of the pain relievers.

They also claimed Pfizer tried to sway influential doctors by hiring them as paid consultants and giving them lavish resort trips.

Pfizer does not acknowledge wrongdoing in the settlement. It also denied breaking any consumer protection laws.
