Palace for pampered pets

MANAHAWKIN, NJ - January 27, 2009

"A lot of people have a hard time leaving their pets and because we make them part of our family it's not like they're really going away. This is their home away from home," said owner Leslie Lorah.

Lucky's is the dream-come-true of dog lover Leslie and her fiancé Reggie Schmidt.

"There's no chain link fences, there's no concrete floors. We just want everybody to be comfortable," Reggie said.

The place has just about everything a dog or cat could want: a full grooming salon, organic foods including "pupcakes", an indoor saltwater swimming pool for when your doggie wants to take a dip, and VIP suites with webcams so you can check on your pet when you're away.

That's what the owners of Bailey, a west highland terrier do.

"As soon as we're situated where we're going that's the first thing we do is go online and see what she's up to. It's so reassuring to know she's happy," said Sherry Haferbier of Barnegat, New Jersey.

And to add to the fun there's also a Yappy hour where guests can socialize. And if you can't bring your dog in yourself, don't worry, there's a Bark & Ride shuttle!

"We have over 1000 customers now and we're picking up animals all the way and close to Philadelphia. I mean were growing rapidly," Leslie said.

Like any high-end hotel, the rooms aren't cheap. The VIP suites, including personal fish tanks, are $35 a night for cats, $70 for dogs. Standard suites are a lot less. Pet owners said it's worth it.

"We've boarded him other places and nothing can compare to this place," said Don Locasto of Manahawkin.

In fact at Lucky's your dog may be having so much fun he won't even notice you're gone!
