Neighbor suspect in 71-year-old's death

FRANKFORD - February 23, 2009 Investigators say a 71-year-old white man was brutally beaten by his neighbor.

He was transported to Frankford Torresdale Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

His neighbor is described as a 44-year-old white man.

Investigators say the suspect used a pipe and a garbage can in the beating.

The bomb squad and the SWAT team were called in to the scene after the suspect barricaded himself in his house.

Action News has learned the suspect has a violent criminal record; he has several registered firearms with, possibly, several more unregistered ones.

According to police, the neighbor's house is boobytrapped.

Several neighbors say there are trip wires all over the home, including holes in the floor that covered by a rug.

Police apprehended the suspect into custody around midnight.

The names of the victim and suspect have not been released.
