Casino big: Don't discuss economy with gamblers

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) - April 7, 2009 That's the recommendation from the head of Atlantic City's Casino Association, who warns that talking with gamblers about how bad the economy is can be a losing proposition.

Joe Corbo says the casinos are being hit hard, just like every other business. In his monthly column in a casino trade publication, Corbo says the last things gamblers need to be reminded of are falling 401(k) balances or other financial woes.

Even if the customer brings it up, Corbo urges casino workers to quickly and politely change the subject.

Atlantic City's 11 casinos saw their gross operating profits plunge by nearly 25 percent last year.
