Parking lots facing tough times

DENVER (AP) - May 11, 2009

A few lots in downtown Denver have trimmed their daytime rates, in one case from $8 to $7, since people aren't driving or going out as often. When they do, they're looking harder for cheap parking.

That's one of the problems facing the International Parking Institute when it begins its annual conference in Denver in a week. And what kind of parking situation will the attendees face when they arrive? The manager of parking management at the Colorado Convention Center suspects many of them will walk from nearby hotels.

The convention will include sessions on collecting parking fees by phone, credit cards and online. And, there will be tours of local parking facilities.
