Shuttle soon landing in New York

NEW YORK (AP) - May 18, 2009

That's what New York Sen. Charles Schumer wants to see.

NASA will soon be retiring the shuttle fleet.

Schumer says the Intrepid Sea, Air, & Space Museum on Manhattan's West Side would be a perfect place for one of the shuttles.

The museum is housed on a retired Navy aircraft carrier.

But the space shuttle would be placed in a glass enclosure on the end of Pier 86.

NASA says the shuttles Discovery, Endeavour, and Atlantis will be ready for their retirement homes in 2012.
