Camden man charged in baby death

CAMDEN, N.J. - May 22, 2009 - Jayson Serrano, 20, was charged with Murder on Thursday night in the death of Amirah Estremera.

Police say Serrano, the boyfriend of the child's mother, kicked the child twice in the abdomen with his knee Thursday morning while in a room at the Hillside Inn on Route 38.

The attacked caused blunt force trauma to the child's head and torso.

Investigators say Serrano called 911 at 8:48 a.m. Thursday and reported that the girl had a seizure. She was pronounced dead a short time later at Cooper Hospital.

Police say Amirah's mother was not at the motel at the time of assault or the 911 call. They add, it appears Amirah's mother and her boyfriend, both Camden residents, had been staying at the motel for several days.
