UK: Girl, 9, dies of swine flu

LONDON - June 29, 2009 Birmingham Children's Hospital said Monday the girl died on Friday and had other underlying health problems. It did not elaborate.

Britain's health ministry says there have been 1,604 new cases of swine flu reported since Friday, bringing the total in the U.K. to 5,937. Britain is the hardest-hit nation in Europe with swine flu.

A 73-year-old man died from swine flu on Saturday. A 38-year-woman died in Scotland of swine flu earlier this month - the first reported swine flu fatality outside the Americas.
