Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the apartment of 74-year old Wilma Banet. Banet was trapped in a back bedroom and unable to exit the apartment due to smoke.
Rescuers were eventually able to remove Ms. Banet from the smokey apartment. However, she later succumbed to her injuries at Lankenau Hospital.
Two other individuals, including a volunteer firefighter, received treatment for injuries sustained in the incident and were released from Lankanau Hospital.
Fire investigators have not yet determined the cause of the fire, but say it appears careless smoking may have played a role.
