Local teen makes Sesame Street debut

PHILADELPHIA - January 19, 2010

Rocco Fiorentino, whose life journey has been far from Easy Street, has landed on Sesame Street. "The most important thing about anyone's disability is what they have the ability to do with it," and for 13-yearr-old Rocco Fiorentino, that's quite a lot.

The 13-year-old has made appearances across the Delaware Valley, the highlight of which will be his debut on Sesame Street next week.

His appearance was arranged by Sharla Feldscher, who heard Rocco sing at a local restaurant. Rocco remembers the taping as one of his best experiences: "It was absolutely fantastic! It was sort of a whole new thing because I never experienced Gordon or Elmo or Telly or any of that."

Rocco says he was especially impressed with how the Muppets stayed in character.

"The Muppets were really like Muppets, even though humans controlled them, off camera, they never stopped being a Muppet!"

He also says they treated him like royalty.

"They showed me the way to my own dressing room," Rocco said. "That was really cool."

Rocco's not sure what's next in his life, but he's ready for it.

"I mean, whatever happens, happens. Whatever it is, I'm gonna be fine with it. I love whatever comes," Rocco laughed.
