NJ school starting later so students can sleep

CHATHAM, N.J. (AP) - January 26, 2010

Classes at Chatham High School will begin at 7:45 a.m. starting Tuesday. The school's 1,060 students will have more time to sleep, eat breakfast or study.

The school's principals told parents that the earlier adolescents begin their school day, the worse it tends to be for their mental and physical well being.

The school eliminated home room and deducted nine minutes off lunch. Students will still be dismissed at 2:35 p.m.

Students who take the bus will continue to arrive at the same time. The library-media center and cafeteria will be open before classes begin.
