Gov. Christie to name health commissioner pick

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - January 27, 2010

A person with direct knowledge of the appointment says Christie will name Poonam Alaigh (uh-LAY') to the post. The 45-year-old specializes in vascular diseases.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity to not upstage the announcement expected Wednesday afternoon.

Alaigh is also the former president of the American Heart Association for the North Jersey region and is a member of the College of New Jersey board of trustees.

If confirmed by the Senate, she would be only the second Indian American to become a New Jersey Cabinet member.
