Pa. man convicted of killing friend

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - February 9, 2010

The jury deliberated for three hours Tuesday before convicting 33-year-old Quaan White of Freemansburg of first-degree murder in the May 9 death of Joseph Botz. White faces a life term when he is sentenced next month.

Authorities in Lehigh County said White killed Botz after the two and others had spent the night drinking and smoking marijuana. Officials said the killing was over something that happened while the defendant was in prison for involuntary manslaughter in a drug-related shooting.

Defense attorney Eric Dowdle argued that the victim was shot accidentally when he and another man struggled over a gun, and others tried to cover up the "tragic accident" by blaming his client.
