Doctors at the University of Michigan say patients often told them that the cream Efudex eliminated the lesions and their facial wrinkles. So they want to know if it could be used just for wrinkles.
The cream creates micro-injuries to the skin, then stimulates healing, just like laser treatments repair sun-damaged skin.
Right now, doctors are looking for the right schedule to give skin a boost, but not too much irritation.
"Perhaps using it just a few times a week to see it if would produce less irritation and inflammation, but at the same time, give the same cosmetic improvement," said Dr. Dana Sachs.
Users say the improvement lasts several years.
