Plastic bags for Haiti

She says she hates plastic
bags. But the University of Oregon student is putting the bags to a
good use. She's making tarps out of them for the homeless in
earthquake-ravaged Haiti. More than 100 people showed up with bags
and irons at a workshop she helped to organize. The red-hot irons
are used to fuse the bags together to make a large waterproof
sheet. Sprengle tells a local paper (Eugene Register-Guard) they
had so many irons, they blew out the electric sockets in one of the
rooms.
