Man charged in Pa. crash that killed woman, boy, 7

NEWTOWN, Pa. (AP) - April 10, 2010

Forty-seven-year-old Michael Hartman of Northampton Township has also been charged with involuntary manslaughter, recklessly endangering another person, reckless driving, speeding and other counts in the Sept. 20 crash in Washington Crossing.

Police allege that Hartman tried to pass another car in a no-passing zone and lost control, after which the cars collided, killing 43-year-old Elizabeth Rawicz of Bridgewater, N.J., and her son, Seth, and injuring her husband.

After Hartman's arraignment Friday, his attorney, Louis Busico, called the case a "tragic accident" but argued that it did not rise to the level of criminal conduct. He said his client's "heartfelt condolences" go out to the victims' family.
