Police: Cobbs Creek triple shooting over girl

COBBS CREEK - April 23, 2010

It happened around 8:00 p.m. Thursday in the 200 block of South 63rd Street, across from the Cobbs Creek Recreation Center .

Police say a group of teenagers started the night at the rec center playing pick-up basketball. When they left, they were sitting in a car and talking to a group of girls.

"A group of 4 to 5 kids were in a car outside the recreation center, those males were talking with young ladies walking out of the recreation center," Lt. Johnny Walker of the Philadelphia Police said.

But after around 40 minutes of hanging out, police say the conversation became heated between two males, one of whom was seated in the driver's seat of a car.

That's when police say one of the males standing outside fired 12 shots from a 9mm handgun into the car, hitting the driver, a teen in the passenger side, and one in the backseat.

The victims are aged 15, 16, and 17. All three were shot in their lower extremities and initially listed in critical condition. Two of them were released from the hospital overnight. One of them remains in critical condition, after being shot 6 times.

The teens who were shot all attend Sayre High School

Authorities say the gunman took off on foot heading east toward Locust from Cobb.

They believe he's between 17- and 20-years-old and goes to the same high school. Police also add the shooting victims are so far not fully cooperating.

The suspect was last seen wearing a black hooded sweat shirt and blue jeans.
