Off-duty officer stabbed during fight

POWELTON - July 4, 2010

Police say it happened after the lieutenant with the department's Highway Patrol left Scooter's Bar along the 3800 block of Lancaster Avenue in Powelton.

Investigators say he noticed two women in a fight down the street and when the off-duty lieutenant intervened, one of the women stabbed him in the back.

The lieutenant used a cell phone to call 9-1-1. Medic rushed him to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania where he's listed in stable condition.

Meantime, the women were taken into custody directly from the scene. The knife was recovered in a nearby sewer grate. The women face numerous charges.
