A generous donation for 5 Camden Catholic schools

Camden, N.J. - February 23, 2011

Retired college professor, Judy Nadell comes to Camden every month to read to the students at St. Joseph Pro Cathedral.

"They want to learn, they are excited, they are passionate about books," says Judith Nadell.

They are books from her very own collection, books published by her and husband John Langan who own Townsend Press.

Through the success of their business, they're able to give each child several books for their own library.

But Nadell and her husband wanted to give the students more than just books. They wanted to leave a far greater impact on their future.

The Voorhees couple decided to donate a $1 million to the 5 Catholic Partnership Schools in the city.

"We live in Camden County. I've been volunteering in Camden for 15 years. We feel a special passion for Camden," said Nadell.

"I think that it is still pretty incredible for me to know how much they have trusted us," said Sister Karen Dietrich.

Executive Director, Sister Karen Dietrich says it's not every day they receive such a large sum of money. And during tough times, when parochial schools are struggling across the country, they want to be extra careful with how they spend it.

"We want to invest it in the children. In programming for the children and we want to do that carefully if not slowly," says Sister Karen.

Nadell says giving a child the gift of literacy, is giving them a future, and that is the mission she vows to continue.

"If you can change the landscape of an individual child, perhaps the landscape of Camden can change," said Nadell.
