NJ Turnpike seeks to eliminate E-ZPass discounts

WOODBRIDGE, N.J. - March 30, 2011

The Turnpike Authority wants to eliminate the off-peak E-ZPass discount for cars whose accounts are outside the New Jersey E-ZPass system.

The system includes the Turnpike Authority, Delaware River Bay Authority, Delaware River Port Authority, Burlington County Bridge Commission and the South Jersey Transportation Authority. It does not include the Port Authority.

E-ZPass violators and toll cheats would also face a $50 administrative fee instead of $25.

Envelopes would be eliminated at unstaffed exact change lanes on the Garden State Parkway. Vehicles would be photographed and motorists would face the administrative fee.

The agency believes the changes would raise an additional $16 million a year.

Public hearings are planned.
