Will May 21st be the end?

May 20, 2011

As day turned to evening in Philadelphia, and as evening turned to night, some dare to ask the question, when the sun rises, will judgment day be at hand?

For true believers, the rapture is at hand. For others, all this talk about the end of the world is amusing.

"It's any other day, get over it," said one college student. "I have an exam next week."

"This is one of the silliest things I have ever heard of in my entire life," said Mayor Nutter.

But there are a group of people taking May 21st, the alleged second coming of Jesus Christ and the end of the world seriously.

California Evangelist Harold Camping believes Saturday morning 200 million people will ascend to heaven while the rest will spend five months in hell on earth before it is destroyed.

He's also had two other failed predictions.

Just last week, Action News introduced the Pisano family from South Philadelphia. They are preparing for the rapture.

"It's what we've been waiting for, it's what every supposed Christian has been waiting for, for God to return again," said Barbara Pisano.

On social media followers on twitter and Facebook were asked their thoughts on the doomsday prediction.

One person posted a bible verse, Matthew 24:36 which states that no one knows when that day will come, only God knows.

"The thought that anyone can pinpoint the day or the hour is ludicrous and should be dismissed," says Pastor Alyn Waller of the Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Pastor Waller also says that people getting closer to their faith because of this is a good thing, but the world thinking that Harold Camping's prediction is coming from the mainstream Christian community is a bad thing.

"And one day we all will have to give an account," says Pastor Waller. "Do I believe that it is tomorrow? No. That's why my sermon is ready for Sunday morning."

Many people believe that Saturday will just be Saturday.
