Godfather charged in death of baby in Philadelphia

HUNTING PARK - May 17, 2011

Action News has learned that 24-year-old Marquise Waliyyuddin has been arrested and charged in the death of Aiden Jameer Santiago.

On Sunday, police responded to the home Walliyuddin shares with his partner in the 4300 block of North 5th Street in Hunting Park.

A neighbor had called 911 upon hearing someone yelling that the infant had stopped breathing.

Aiden was rushed to Saint Christopher's Hospital around 6:00 p.m. Sunday, where doctors treated the child and discovered he had suffered head trauma.

The child later died at the hospital.

Police tell Action News that Waliyyuddin confessed to shaking his own godson repeatedly, causing the fatal injuries that killed the baby - all because the infant would not stop crying.

Walliyyudin and his partner often cared for the infant and had picked him up from his mother the night before, police said.

Walliyuddin has had numerous run-ins with police and been arrested for assault in the past, all stemming from fights with his partner, according to police.

Walliyyudin is charged with murder and endangering the welfare of a child. His partner and the boy's mother will not be charged.
