Parenting: The guilt of a working mom

February 7, 2012

To be honest, I often feel jealous of my babysitter! My husband thinks I'm crazy, but I can't help it.

When I'm spending time with my children at home, I also have to balance the laundry, cooking and cleaning.

Then I split any spare time I have into three so I can be with my each of my children. Needless to say, we're not always having quality time.

When our babysitter arrives, she usually can focus directly on the kids and she plays all day with my son who is at home.

Kathy Eugster is a registered play therapist and counselor.

She suggests that kids really bond with their parents through play and recommends 30 minutes of uninterrupted one-on-one play time per week.

Eugster says you should schedule it ahead of time and let the child take the lead.

The one challenge is that someone else should watch the other children while you're having one-on-one time.
