Flames destroy an Atlantic Co. house

GALLOWAY TWP., N.J. - April 10, 2012

The three-alarm fire broke out around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Duerer and Odessa Avenues in Galloway Township.

Crews say heavy fire poured from the upper floors of the house. Due to the rural location of the house, crews initially had a hard time dousing the flames - the nearest fydrant being a mile away.

At least 5 tanker trucks responded to the fire, and crews were able to bring the fire under control within 30 minutes.

Nobody had been living in the home for at least a week. The owner of the property was planning of fixing it up and moving in.

Fire officials do not have an official cause on the fire, but believe it started in a first floor dining room.

No one was injured.
