Head-on crash leaves 1 critical in New Castle

NEW CASTLE, Del. - May 13, 2012

Police say the crash occurred at approximately 3:20 p.m. Sunday as 37-year-old Bethena Haman was driving a Ford Taurus on Airport Road southbound.

For unknown reasons, the vehicle drifted across the center line and struck a Taurus a Lexus SUV head-on.

The Lexus was being operated by 49-year-old Donald Ratledge of Bear, Delaware.

Haman was trapped and pinned in the Taurus for approximately 40 minutes until she was extricated by medics.

Haman was transported by ambulance to the Christiana Hospital in serious condition.

Ratledge was transported to Christiana Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. .

Airport Road was closed for approximately 1.5 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

Troopers continue to investigate this crash.

Charges are pending.
