Dog found dead, burned in Fairmount Park

FAIRMOUNT PARK - May 22, 2012

Officers responded to the scene at 33rd Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue after it was reported that a male pit bull type dog was found wrapped in a blanket which had been set on fire.

It is unclear whether or not the dog was alive or dead when the blanket was ignited.

Officers combed the scene for clues before bringing the body of the deceased dog back to the Pennsylvania SPCA's headquarters, where it will undergo a necropsy to determine the cause of death.

Anyone with information that can aid in this investigation is urged to call the Pennsylvania SPCA's anti-cruelty hotline at 1-866-601-SPCA.
