Balloons knock out power to S. Philly buildings

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA - February 16, 2013

It happened around 6:00 p.m. Saturday at Wilson Park on the 2500 block of Jackson Street.

Seven buildings lost power, forcing authorities to briefly evacuate many residents.

"A couple seniors that were stuck in an elevator, we were able to get those people out. There were absolutely no injuries," said Battalion Chief Carl Randolph.

Officials say balloons from a nearby celebration caused a fuse to blow, knocking out electricity.

All service was later restored by 10:30 p.m.
