Delaware scout troop salutes 1st black Eagle Scout

MILLSBORO, Del. (AP) - April 13, 2013

The Daily Times reports that Boy Scout Troop 89 in Millsboro held a court of honor Saturday for Darien Jones. He is the first African-American scout to make Eagle Scout in the troop's 83-year history.

Jones says it's an honor to be the first, and he's glad his work has paid off.

Jones is a senior at Sussex Technical High School. He has recently enlisted in the U.S. National Guards and plans to attend Morehouse College in Atlanta to major in philosophy.

Last year, eight boys reached the rank of Eagle Scout in the troop. Jones is the first of 2013.
