Saving with 6abc: Moms Helping Moms

PHILADELPHIA - August 27, 2013

Expectant mom Kyahna Santos got the surprise of her life Tuesday afternoon.

Everything she needs for her baby, from bottles to bath supplies, for free from complete strangers.

The women are part of a Bucks County Facebook group called Moms Helping Moms.

Jen Litka started the group, whose 1,900 members give away all kinds of items to each other and other families!

"I was personally helped out at Christmastime when my husband lost his job and it was just overwhelming how complete strangers come together for people in need," Litka said.

"Why not give it to someone in need who doesn't have it at the moment," Amanda Jacobs of Telford, Pa. said.

And members of Moms Helping Moms tell Action News this giving Facebook group has evolved into so much more.

"It's the comradery; it's like a second family. Anytime someone needs anything, there's always someone reaching out to help you," Jacobs said.

"I've made so many friends through the site from all over the place," Litka said.

The group is also about paying it forward, a concept Kyahna Santos of Bethlehem already has in mind to help someone she knows.

"I've already told her, 'I have extra clothes. If you need anything, just let me know and pass it on,'" Santos said.

To join Moms Helping Moms, you need to reach out to the founder Jen Litka via Facebook.
